A Norwegian family arrived in the lower Snoqualmie Valley in the 1880s and developed the Hjertoos Farm, also known as the Carnation Tree Farm. In 1905, Bergette and Andrew Hjertoos began construction on a two-story, wood frame farmhouse to replace the earlier structures. The Tolt Historical Society moved into the Hjertoos House in 2018.
