The Upper Yakima Basin spans the entire eastern half of the Mountains to Sound Greenway, stretching from high alpine wilderness in the Cascades to high value agricultural lands in the Kittitas Valley near Ellensburg.  Rich in natural resources, communities like Roslyn and Cle Elum celebrate their mining and logging legacies even as tourism and outdoor recreation become more important parts of the local economy.

The Greenway Trust’s work here is focused on initiating and supporting collaborations with other organizations and individuals to conserve natural lands, enhance connections between communities and public lands, and engage people in education and volunteerism to care for the landscape around them. Initial projects are focused on improving recreational access to public lands and habitat restoration for fish and wildlife in collaboration with local community leaders, agencies, and other nonprofit organizations.
