Volunteer Activities

There are many ways to get involved and make a difference within the Mountains to Sound Greenway National Heritage Area. Try the different activities below to acquire new skills and learn how we can care for our local environment!

Blackberry Grubber

Grab your loppers, gloves, and get ready to improve ecosystems! Earn your Blackberry Grubber stamp by removing weeds, such as non-native blackberry, at an event. Check out our upcoming habitat restoration events here!

Tree Planter

Earn this stamp by volunteering at a tree planting event between October and December. Planting today creates healthier habitats for the future!

Nursery Steward

Earn this stamp by attending an event at the Greenway Trust Native Plant Nursery. Located in Lake Sammamish State Park, the nursery is home to more than 20,000 native trees and shrubs used for habitat restoration projects within the Greenway.

Trail Builder

Earn this stamp by volunteering at a trail maintenance event. If you love hiking and other outdoor activities, this is the perfect way to give back to the places that bring you joy!

Trailhead Ambassador

Earn this stamp by volunteering as a Trailhead Ambassador. If you enjoy sharing your love for the outdoors and want to help people safely and responsibly explore trails, this is the perfect opportunity for you.


Regions of the Greenway

Each region has its own stories to tell and opportunities to make an impact. Volunteer at events across the Greenway to explore new landscapes, learn about the work happening in each area, and collect stamps along the way.

King County

Earn this stamp by volunteering at an event west of Snoqualmie Pass. Most events take place in Seattle, Issaquah, and the Snoqualmie Valley, offering a great way to experience the Greenway’s mix of urban and natural landscapes.

Kittitas County

Earn this stamp by attending an event east of Snoqualmie Pass. Explore the Upper Yakima Basin, where alpine landscapes meet working lands and historic communities like Roslyn and Cle Elum.

Middle Fork Snoqualmie Valley

Earn a bonus stamp by volunteering at an event in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Valley. Surrounded by alpine peaks and old-growth forests, this special place reflects decades of partnership and care, and ongoing efforts to restore and protect it for the future.


Annual Greenway Events

The Greenway Trust hosts several signature volunteer events that take place every year. Join us in caring for public lands, restoring habitats, and celebrating our connection to nature!

National Trails Day

Come out on the first Saturday of June to hike and enjoy a day of service giving back to trails! Sign up for this year’s National Trails Day work party in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Valley today.

Teanaway Trail Fest

Earn this stamp by attending the Teanaway Trail Fest in June. This festival celebrates and supports the Towns to Teanaway Trail System and the surrounding communities.

National Public Lands Day

Celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday of September, this is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands. Join us for a fun day of stewardship, celebration, and community!

Tree Planting Celebration

Attend this event in October to kick off the start of the tree planting season. Join us in rebuilding healthy forests to support wildlife and improve salmon habitats!

Annual Dinner

The Greenway Annual Dinner in November brings together supporters from across the region to celebrate our collective accomplishments in land conservation, ecological restoration, outdoor recreation, and connecting people with nature.

Spring Fundraising Breakfast

Enjoy breakfast and connect with other community members during our biggest fundraiser of the year at Lake Sammamish State Park. This event is typically held in May and is a great way to kick off summer in the Greenway NHA!
