Restoration Projects Manager 

The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust works with a broad coalition of partners to support the stewardship of a landscape that stretches from the shores of Puget Sound across the Cascade Mountains to Central Washington. The Greenway Trust coordinates the Mountains to Sound Greenway National Heritage Area (NHA), which honors the historical and cultural significance of this place and helps to preserve and celebrate its living heritage.  


The Restoration Program Manager implements ecological restoration projects that focus on improving ecological health and function through stewardship of natural lands and public open spaces. This individual is responsible for a broad portfolio of projects with a focus on riparian restoration (to improve habitat for threatened Chinook and other salmon species), community-oriented restoration (in areas with less access to natural lands), urban forests, carbon crediting, climate resilience, and forest and ecosystem health. This position works as part of the Field Programs Team in an energetic, productive, and collaborative environment.  

This position is ideal for someone who is passionate and enthusiastic about ecological restoration; has several years of experience in project implementation and wants to leverage their technical skills through collaborative work with Greenway Trust staff, public land management agencies, Tribes, and nonprofit partners; is excited about stewarding relationships; wants to work at the intersection of on-the-ground improvements and long-term landscape objectives and partnerships; and is capable of supervising full-time and seasonal positions.  


  • Project Management: Create, manage, and assess plans for each restoration project (including scope of work details, methods, workforce, budget, and implementation schedule and approach). Ensure that deliverables, timelines, objectives, and requirements for projects are achievable and met.  
  • Personnel Management: Supervise restoration coordinators and seasonal multi-person restoration crew. 
  • Project Development & Partnerships: Manage and navigate relationships and partnerships with government agencies at multiple levels (federal, state, county, municipal), Tribes, nonprofits, businesses, and community groups with an emphasis on project design, planning, scoping, coordination, and fundraising (including grant writing). Participate in regional ecological coalitions and forums with a restoration nexus.    
  • Education & Outreach: Lead Greenway presentations and tours of project sites for partners, community, and Board members. Lead occasional volunteer events and groups as part of Greenway Trust projects and celebrations.  
  • Greenway Trust Priorities: Support organizational priorities including the National Heritage Area; diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts; and climate change initiatives and participate in key organizational events. 


A successful applicant can demonstrate a combination of the following through relevant certifications, education, and professional and/or lived experiences. We do not expect applicants to have all of these skills or experiences, though we do expect them to have a learning mindset and demonstrated aptitude and desire for developing new skills on the job. Given the Greenway Trust’s emphasis on collaboration and partnership, we also expect applicants to be able to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues and with partners, some of whom may hold different opinions and perspectives. 

  • Strong applicable experience coordinating projects or managing project implementation in restoration ecology (including nonnative and native plant identification; manual, mechanical, and chemical weed control methods; selecting appropriate native plants based on site conditions; and experience with or ability to quickly learn plants of the Pacific Northwest).  
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple seasonal crew positions and full-time staff positions.  
  • Familiar with overseeing contracted service providers and consultants.  
  • Able to work effectively with a broad and diverse range of partners and stakeholders.   
  • Effective at simultaneously managing multiple projects with varying degrees of complexity.  
  • Capable of working independently and as a member of a team.  
  • Adaptable under changing circumstances and comfortable making decisions within ambiguity.  
  • Comfortable with public speaking and ability to act as a representative for the Greenway Trust in multiple formats (such as presentations, forums and coalitions, meetings, tours, and volunteer events).

  • Experience using and maintaining small motor tools (i.e., brush cutters). 
  • Washington State Pesticide Applicator’s License with an aquatic endorsement and experience with safe pesticide application in Washington State. The Greenway Trust will cover the cost of certification and time for testing if needed. 
  • Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification. The Greenway Trust will facilitate WFA training if needed. 
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS mobile applications such as Field Maps, QuickCapture, and Survey 123. 

REPORTS TO: Stewardship Program Manager  

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Compensation is $60,000-70,000 per year, depending on experience. The Greenway Trust offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental and vision plans, paid vacation and sick leave, retirement plan, ORCA transit pass, and more.    

LOCATION AND SCHEDULE: The Restoration Projects Manager is a full-time, exempt (40-hour/week) position that typically works Monday to Friday with occasional evening and weekend events. This position is based out of the Greenway Trust Field Office at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah, WA and will work on surrounding public lands. This position will require regular visits to the field, year-round. The Greenway Trust has adopted a hybrid work model in which each employee works with their supervisor to set a schedule of in-office and remote work based on job responsibilities, meeting and event schedules, and other responsibilities.  

EQUIPMENT: The Greenway Trust provides a laptop computer, cell phone, and transit pass to each regular employee. A valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and completion of internal training is required to use Greenway vehicles. Because Greenway vehicles are not always available, employees must have access to a personal vehicle or alternative transportation when needed for travel. While employees are allowed to work remotely, the Greenway Trust does not reimburse for expenses such as internet or home office setups.
