YESS-Puget Sound Skills Center

Thank you for your interest in the YESS student internship through Puget Sound Skills Center! Join us on April 29 at 5:00pm for a virtual information session to learn more. (Zoom link).

WHEN: 
June 26 – July 19, 2024. Monday-Friday, 8am-1pm.
No school on July 4-5.
Students will complete approx. 10 hours of school work at home.

WHO: A cohort of 8 high school students from the Puget Sound Skills Center. (PSSC serves 11th and 12th grade students from 22 partner high schools in Highline, Federal Way, Tukwila, and Tahoma school districts).

WHERE: Student interns meet at the Puget Sound Skills Center in Burien.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Earn an $900 stipend plus 1.0 graduation credit.
  • Receive a Gear Kit that includes work pants, hiking boots and socks, a first aid kit, and more.
  • Experience as part of a restoration crew.
  • Explore green careers related to natural resources, conservation, ecological restoration, and land management.
  • Become familiar with Pacific NW plants, including how and why to replace invasive plants with native ones.
  • Engage with restoration professionals from the U.S. Forest Service, WA Dept. of Natural Resources, King County, City of Burien, and the Greenway Trust’s professional crews.
  • Transportation and safety gear are provided.
