Women in the Woods Kick Off!
This Mother's Day weekend, recruit a mom, friend, or fly solo and join the Greenway in celebrating women of all kind by working on the trail together. On May 11, the Greenway Trust will be hosting the first Women in the Woods event of 2019!
The Greenway Trust has offered the Women in the Woods series since 2010 to address the gender gap in the trail community and build community for women-identified and non-binary outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you are a trail pro or are out to try trail work for the first time, Women in the Woods events are a blast.
We will be hiking into the project site together, learning proper trail maintenance and building techniques, using trail specific tools, and building stronger connection to trails. The goal of this event, and the entire Women in the Woods series, is to create a more inclusive and empowered trail community.
Be sure to pre-register for this event – and sign the online waiver – spaces are limited!
For safety, volunteers are required to wear:
- Long pants (we’ll be working with tools, so no shorts!)
- Sturdy, close-toed shoes (absolutely no sandals)
In addition, we recommend that participants bring:
- Warm layers, especially during the fall, winter, and spring
- Rain gear
- Big sack lunch
- Water for the day (3 liters minimum)
- Small daypack for lunch, extra layers, etc.
