Teanaway Guard Station Upkeep
*Please note that the Teanaway Guard Station Project depends on USFS partner capacity to prepare the site. There is a chance this particular workparty may be cancelled or combined with a different site.
Join the Mountains to Sound Greenway and the USFS to celebrate National Public Lands Day with service! The Teanaway Guard Station was constructed in 1950 by a miner, then passed into the hands of the Forest Service to be used as a fire guard station in 1978. Now this historical building can be rented for overnight use. Park at the dispersed sites across the road from the Guard Station and meet your site lead in front of the building.
Volunteers will remove debris from the cabin’s exterior and re-seal the structure against the elements! Other tasks include cutting brush back to a safe distance, disassembling unofficial fire pits and picking up trash. Tools, equipment, and protective gear will be provided.
Wear clothes and shoes that you're comfortable walking and bending in. Bring water and snacks. The event ends at 1, and the drive out of the forest is almost an hour, so snacks are highly recommended.
Wear long pants, close toed shoes, and weather-appropriate layers.
