Come celebrate the City of Mercer Island’s Arbor Day! Come plant a tree on the Island and partake in a fun day in habitat restoration with Mercer Island Parks and Recreation and the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust.
Homestead Park is 11.1 acres of forested open space that includes ballfields, a playground and tennis and basketball courts. The park’s urban forest and wetland help to purify stormwater runoff to improve water quality, contributing to the important ecological function of this park. Currently, Homestead Park is heavily invaded by invasive weed species – ivy, holly, Himalayan blackberry – and is in need of restoration efforts. Volunteers will work together on Arbor Day to enhance this site, plant native trees and shrubs, and enjoy the park together.
Sign up today! This event is perfect for volunteers of all ages and abilities, all training provided and no experience necessary. Lunch and small refreshments will be provided to volunteers.
