The Communications Associate’s primary responsibilities will be to create and curate frequent content for all of the Greenway’s public-facing communications channels including two websites (www.mtsgreenway.org and www.savorsnoqualmievalley.org), social media, email newsletters, print materials, presentations, and more. The Associate will also track progress on an internal editorial calendar to ensure that content is ready and communications are coordinated across channels. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the Communications Manager and could include representing the Greenway Trust at outreach events, supporting media relations, and tracking and reporting on digital analytics.
The right candidate is an excellent writer with a passion for sharing stories about diverse topics including land conservation, environmental education, transportation, cultural heritage, public policy, and natural resource management. This position is ideal for an organized, inquisitive individual who can clearly communicate sometimes technical or complicated topics for general audiences, and who can consistently meet deadlines for multiple overlapping projects. This position is a full-time position with the Greenway Trust with growth opportunities within the organization.
The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust builds coalitions with governments, tribes, businesses, nonprofits, and citizen groups to conserve and enhance the Greenway landscape and to engage people as stewards of our natural resources and heritage. As the coordinating entity for the newly designated Mountains to Sound Greenway National Heritage Area, we play a unique role in the region to bridge differences and emphasize common ground. Communications and Marketing Support
- Create and curate content. With guidance from the Communications Manager, write and curate content for all Greenway communications channels, including website (mtsgreenway.org), blogs, e-newsletters, social media, brochures/handouts, etc.
- Support Savor Snoqualmie Valley. With guidance, write and curate content for Savor Snoqualmie Valley communications including website (savorsnoqualmievalley.org), blogs, e-newsletters, social media, brochures/handouts, etc.
- Meet publication schedules. Ensure content is produced and published or posted according to the internal editorial calendars for the Greenway and Savor Snoqualmie Valley.
- Keep websites current. Ensure website content, including the interactive maps and events calendars, is current and accurate.
- Cross-post content. Work closely with partner organizations to invite and curate guest content on Greenway channels and to share Greenway content on their channels.
- Attend outreach and community events. Represent the Greenway Trust and share stories and communications material at outreach and community events, as needed.
- Track and support media coverage. Maintain list of news and other media coverage of the Greenway, and support responses to media requests.
- Track and report analytics. Help track analytics and report on performance measures for digital communications.
- Salesforce data entry and reporting. Use Salesforce to update and maintain mailing lists, facilitate targeted group communications, and track communication and marketing responsiveness.
- Support logistics and promotion for major public Greenway events, including Explore the Greenway Trips, signature volunteer events, Savor Snoqualmie Valley community events, fundraising events, and others as needed.
- Help with grant-writing, grant-reporting, and other fundraising efforts as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, team building, and training events.
- May assist with visual and graphic design.
- Other tasks as assigned.

- Writing skills. Exceptional writing skills for short form (ex: social media), medium form (ex: blog), and long form (ex: report) communications.
- Organization and initiative. Strong organizational skills and personal initiative, with demonstrated ability to manage overlapping projects and successfully meet respective deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work constructively as part of a team, and with colleagues who may have different skills, styles or perspectives.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office, and experience with major social media platforms, and website management (WordPress preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience in journalism, communications, or related fields.
- Familiarity or experience with Salesforce or other CRM platforms, Campaign Monitor, Form Assembly, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable applications.
- Proficiency in graphic design, photography, and visual imaging.
- Knowledge of the regional conservation landscape, organizations, land use, and politics.
- Proficiency in additional language(s) (written/spoken) a plus.
REPORTS TO | Communications Manager
This position will be classified and compensated depending on qualifications (expected compensation range: $38,000-$48,000 annually); includes excellent medical/dental/vision, vacation, transit, and retirement benefits.
Full-time position, works Monday – Friday, including occasional weekends and evenings.
The primary work location is at the Greenway Trust office in downtown Seattle. This position also requires occasional travel to sites throughout the Greenway for meetings, presentations, and events.
