Event Overview
Join the Greenway Trust and King County Parks and Recreation to restore native conifer canopy along the Middle Fork River at the Middle Fork Natural Area. Help us remove invasive species that have been introduced by boot and tire tread, wildlife, and road construction. With more people in the Middle Fork, it is important to remove invasive species from the area before they can establish and crowd out important native vegetation. Volunteers will focus on removing invasive blackberry plants to make room for native tree plantings. Joining the event will be Mark Boyar, a committed volunteer who has devoted much of his time to restoring the Valley, who will share his stories about the Middle Fork and the decades-long campaign to stop the encroachment of invasive weeds. Hosted by King County Parks and Recreation and the Mountains to Sound Greenway TrustFollowed by the REI Co-op Cheers for Volunteers celebration at the Middle Fork Campground

Any participant under 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
What to Bring

For safety, volunteers are required to wear:

  • Long pants made of sturdy material
  • Sturdy, close-toed shoes
  • Gloves (provided)

In addition, we recommend that participants bring:

  • Warm layers, especially during the fall, winter, and spring
  • Rain gear
  • Big sack lunch
  • Long sleeved shirt
  • At least one full water bottle
  • Small daypack for lunch, extra layers, etc…

We encourage you to carpool to this event – we are expecting a large number of volunteers!

From Seattle, drive east on I-90 to exit 34 (Edgewick Road). Turn left (north) onto 468th Ave SE and follow it to the junction with the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road (Forest Road 5600). Turn right and continue up the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road for approximately 5.5 miles to the Granite Creek trailhead parking area on the right. Look for Greenway signs and staff.
