Flag Pole (Wye) Park
From Wye Park you can easily visit the interesting museums, shops, and parks that Cle Elum has to offer. Alternatively you can head north on the Coal Mines Trail or west on the Palouse to Cascades State Parks trail. Cle Elum is also a great jumping off point for further flung adventures in the beautiful Teanaway area.
In the 1880s, the Northern Pacific Railroad was built through Cle Elum, and coal was discovered in the area. The cities of Roslyn and Cle Elum started as mining towns and coal miners from all over came to work in the mines. Mining ended in the 1960s and logging then became the area’s principal industry. Today the Cle Elum area thrives as a recreation destination given its prime location at the foot of the Cascade Range.
