Event Overview

Tour a low-tech, process-based restoration site on a tributary to the Teanaway River with Mike Bosko (Mid-Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group). Bosko, a dedicated naturalist, works as a project manager for one of the groups leading Teanaway Community Forest (TCF) restoration efforts: Mid-Columbia Fisheries, the TCF land managers (DFW and DNR), and Yakama Nation Fisheries.

The restoration work happening in the TCF, including both low-tech and large, technical projects, is necessary to get the river back on track to maintain its own health. These projects aim to course correct the consequences of logging with splash dams and railroads, which include reduced habitat complexity, warmed waters, and greater peak flows (flooding) and reduced dry season flows (drought/dewatering). In 150 years, this area was altered completely, but not irreversibly. The Teanaway restoration teams are already working to restore the Teanaway River to a healthy state.

Join us to learn more about these projects, innovative restoration techniques, and how restoration fared through last winter’s flooding events! Follow the green event sign onto the dirt road for Jack Creek and park behind the gate by 10AM for a round of introductions and a brief intro to the Teanaway Community Forest. Bosko will then begin a tour of the site, which will involve some walking on uneven ground. Bring comfortable shoes, water, and layers for walking through tall grass/brush! Registration is free, but limited to 20 people, and those of all ages are encouraged to join us. There are no bathrooms on site, but the 29 Pines Camping Area, a three-minute drive from Jack Creek, has portable toilets.
