BIPOC Sustainable Foraging Hike

Date & Time
Saturday, July 6, 2024
Event Overview
Event co-hosted with Latino Outdoors,  QPOC Hikers, and King County Noxious Weeds Join QPOC Hikers, Latino Outdoors, and Mountains to Sound Greenway for a BIPOC Sustainable Foraging Hike led by Skye from King County Noxious Weeds. Embark on a mindful hike and learn how to identify and cultivate useful plant relatives in our local landscape. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a stewardship mindset to build more sustainable relationships with plant life. What we will be doing: We’ll be exploring the urban trails of Carkeek Park in Seattle as a group. The trail has minimal elevation gain and varied terrain from sidewalk, to boardwalk, to muddy path. We will be taking stops to get familiar with particular plants that have edible, medicinal, or other uses. Plants include both native and introduced relatives. Note: while this hike is forage focused, due to the size of the group (~30) we will need to be mindful of our harvest as we are all together and should not anticipate going home with a bounty of forage unless we happen upon a plentiful area.
