April 12 Mount Si Trailhead – Mountaineers
Our work project includes trailhead and trail maintenance. At the trailhead we will brush back encroaching vegetation, remove invasives, clean up signage and otherwise restore the site. We will also restore an ADA loop trail at the site. On this trail we will brush back encroaching vegetation, remove invasive plants, and possibly a do a bit of trail surfacing. If time allows we also have a group work on maintaining the lower Mount Si Trail.
For safety, volunteers are required to wear:
- Long pants (we’ll be working with tools, so no shorts!)
- Sturdy, close-toed shoes (absolutely no sandals)
- Gloves
In addition, we recommend that participants bring:
- Warm layers, especially during the fall, winter, and spring
- Rain gear
- Big sack lunch
- Water for the day (3 liters minimum)
- Small daypack for lunch, extra layers, etc.

From Seattle, take I-90 Eastbound. In 29 miles, take exit 32 for 436th Ave SE. Turn left onto 436th Ave SE. At the second traffic circle, turn left onto SE N Bend Way. Turn right onto SE Mount Si Rd. In about two miles, the entrance to the Mount Si Trailhead will be on the left. Look for Greenway event signs and staff.
Mount Si Trailhead is the starting point for one of Washington State’s most popular and challenging hikes. Located near North Bend, Washington, the trailhead provides access to the Mount Si Trail, a steep, well-maintained path that ascends about 3,150 feet over roughly 4 miles (8 miles round trip).
A short ADA loop trail is also found at the trailhead.
The trailhead is serviced by Trailhead Direct, Memorial Day through mid-September. Check for schedule and itinerary updates at: https://trailheaddirect.org/
Trailhead Details:
- Location: Just off SE Mount Si Road, near North Bend, WA
- Elevation Gain: ~3,150 feet
- Distance: 8 miles round trip
- Difficulty: Strenuous
- Parking: Large lot, but fills up early, especially on weekends
- Facilities: Restrooms at the trailhead
- Pass Required: Discover Pass
Trail Highlights:
- The trail features a steady incline through dense forest with beautiful moss-covered trees and occasional viewpoints of the Snoqualmie Valley.
- Near the summit, the trail opens up to breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and lowlands.
- The hike culminates at a rocky scramble called "The Haystack," which offers panoramic views but requires careful climbing.
Mount Si is a great training hike for more difficult climbs like Mount Rainier and is popular year-round, though snow and ice can make winter ascents challenging.
