President Obama picks Sally Jewell for Secretary of the Interior
President Obama nominated Sally Jewell for the post of Secretary of the Interior. Jewell is a past president and a founding board member of the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust and the President and CEO of REI.
“Sally Jewell is a respected leader and passionate advocate for conservation, recreation and outdoor education,” says Cynthia Welti, Greenway Trust Executive Director. “We are delighted with this news. Sally will serve our country well.”
President Obama gave a shout out to our own Mailbox Peak, according to USA Today. Reconstruction of the Mailbox Peak Trail is currently a major Greenway project and part of a significant effort to improve recreation access in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Valley, less than an hour’s drive outside the Seattle metropolitan area.
The Seattle Times published a wonderful profile of Sally as a business executive known for her conservation work and love of the outdoors, and another about her balanced approach that brings economic success in balance with preserving the natural world.
Reuters, Washington Post and many other news organizations covered the story.
Congratulations, Sally!
