East Lake Sammamish Trail segment paved and improved
King County and City of Issaquah officials cut the ribbon today on a newly-paved segment of the East Lake Sammamish Trail in Issaquah.
The improved section of trail runs 2.2 miles from SE 43rd Street to NW Gilman Boulevard, transforming this former gravel surface to a paved trail that is 12 feet wide with 2-foot shoulders on each side. Safety upgrades were part of this project, with enhanced road crossing and intersection improvements.
The East Lake Sammamish Trail follows the former Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway route along the eastern shore of Lake Sammamish and connects Issaquah, Sammamish and Redmond.
Funding for the project was provided by the voter-approved 2008-13 King County Open Space and Trails Levy, Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program, and the Federal Highway Administration.
