What to Bring

For safety, volunteers are required to wear:

  • Long pants (we’ll be working with tools, so no shorts!)
  • Sturdy, close-toed shoes (absolutely no sandals)
  • Gloves (we will provide a limited number, bring your own if you like)

In addition, we recommend that participants bring:

  • Rain gear (raincoat or poncho, rainpants)
  • Warm layers (fleece jacket, warm hat, etc.)
  • At least one full water bottle
  • Small daypack for snacks and extra layers

From Seattle, drive east on I-90 to exit 34 (Edgewick Road). Turn left (north) onto 468th Street and follow it to the junction with the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road (Forest Road 56). Turn right and continue up the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road for approximately 5.5 miles to the Granite Creek trailhead parking area on the right. Look for Greenway signs and staff.

On National Public Lands Day, celebrate the opening of the new road by joining the effort to restore this beautiful area by helping plant native species in the Granite Creek Trailhead parking area--a brand-new gateway for recreation access.
REI will be hosting "Cheers for Volunteers," an optional NPLD family-friendly afterparty at the nearby Middle Fork Campground starting at 1:00 pm. All volunteers are invited--stick around after the event for free beer, lunch, and trivia!

For over a decade, Mountains to Sound Greenway has worked to protect the scenic Middle Fork Valley of the Snoqualmie River. The Middle Fork Valley is a treasure for anyone living in or visiting the greater Seattle area. A person seeking a day of adventure could leave downtown Seattle and, in less than an hour’s time, reach the gateway to pristine Cascades wilderness. From there, that person could set out on any of dozens of trails leading to mountain peaks, hidden lakes, or old-growth forests. This National Public Lands Day, give back to your local trails and join a community of stewards at Cheers for Volunteers (hosted by REI).
