Event Overview
Join us in caring for our public lands! This project will focus on maintaining and restoring access to picnic areas along this 0.5 mile ADA-accessible trail.

What to Expect:

We will have fun and work at our own pace during this 3-hour work party. Light-duty tasks will be available, and no prior experience necessary. This project is on flat terrain and requires minimal hiking, as all projects are within a half mile of the trailhead. Projects will involve using loppers to cut back brush and hand tools like mccleods and grub hoes to remove vines and other vegetation growing into the graveled picnic areas.

8:45 to 9:00 AM: Check-in at the Camp Brown Day Use Area trailhead.

9:00 AM: Welcome, safety talks, project overview, and begin work!

12 PM: We will wrap up work in time to travel to Tanner Landing for lunch and celebration with volunteers from all six work sites. Please join us!

What to Bring

For safety, volunteers are required to wear:

  • Long pants (we’ll be working with tools, so no shorts!)
  • Sturdy, close-toed shoes (absolutely no sandals)
  • Gloves (provided by the Greenway Trust)

In addition, we recommend that participants bring:

  • Warm layers
  • Sunscreen
  • Rain gear
  • Big sack lunch
  • Water for the day (3 liters minimum)
  • Small daypack for lunch, extra layers, etc.
Driving Directions

Northwest Forest Pass required for parking. There will be no cell service at the trailhead, so please plan accordingly.

From Seattle, drive east on I-90 to exit 34 (Edgewick Road). Turn left (north) onto 468th Ave SE and follow it to the junction with the SE Middle Fork Road. Turn right and continue up the road (which turns into NF-5600) for 11.4 miles to the Camp Brown Day Use Area parking lot, on the right side of the road.

Additional Information

Camp Brown Day Use Area was constructed as a picnic area in the summer of 2019 through a collaborative effort between the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust and the United States Forest Service Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Located alongside the Wild & Scenic Middle Fork River, this picnic area offers scenic vistas and safe access to the river for visitors to utilize and explore. In addition to the picnic sites, there is an ADA-accessible interpretive loop trail circling the area. This trail was constructed with the help of excavators and other large machinery, and is now in need of some maintenance to restore accessibility of the trail. Volunteers will work with the Greenway Trust to maintain the trail while enjoying sweeping views of Mount Garfield and the Middle Fork River.
