SUMMARY:Ranger Hike: Mysteries of Mercer Slough
DESCRIPTION:Bring the whole family to join a Ranger on a guided hike through the Mercer Slough Nature Park. This kid-oriented program aims to educate kids and their parents about the Nature Park while discovering the birds and animals that call the Mercer Slough home. The hour-long nature walk ends at the channel bridge in the middle of the park. From there you can continue on to further explore the rich diversity the park has to offer. \nCost: FREE! RSVP firmly required by 3 p.m. the day prior to program. RSVP at mseec@bellevuewa.gov or 425-452-2565. All participants must wear a face mask and maintain 6 ft. distancing. Maximum enrollment 9. SUMMARY:Bellevue Master Naturalist Training Program
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a passion for the environment and your Bellevue Parks? Applications are being accepted until November 30 for a free Bellevue Parks & Community Services Master Naturalist training program – designed to build a group of dedicated community volunteers trained in environmental awareness and stewardship. \nBellevue Master Naturalists learn about our area’s ecology\, geology\, wildlife\, plant life\, cultural history\, wetlands\, forests\, and streams from professors\, scientists\, local professionals\, and park rangers. Master Naturalists will focus on restoration and conservation efforts\, and will help share this passion by working with and educating their community. \nOver the course of this 12-week training program\, volunteers will meet with experts in lecture\, workshop\, and field-trip settings to explore various ecological topics. Trainings occur Tuesday and Thursday evenings\, 5:30–8 p.m. at the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center (1625 118th Ave SE\, Bellevue) from January 23 to April 9\, 2020. The program is free with a volunteer commitment of 100 hours of service. \nApplications must be submitted by mail\, postmarked by Nov 30\, 2019. DESCRIPTION:Explore Mercer Slough with your preschooler and grow a connection to the natural world! Each two-hour class includes art\, play\, and story time designed around a seasonal theme. \nProgram Details \nTime: Saturdays\, 9:30-11:30 a.m.\nAges: 2.5-4\, with a parent or guardian*\nCost: $20\, or $15 for Pacific Science Center Members \nJan 12 and 19: Ice is Nice\nCome explore the frozen park! We’ll build with ice\, break ice\, melt ice\, and even use ice to make art. \nFeb 9 and 16: Nature Rocks!\nA rock can be an instrument\, a tool\, a treasure\, a building block\, and more.  With rocks of all shapes\, textures\, and sizes\, there’s so much to investigate. What else do you think can a rock be? \nMar 16: Wonderful Wetlands\nWhat IS a wetland\, anyway?  We’ll take an up-close look at the plants and other unique things that live in wetlands\, and learn about why they’re so important. \nMar 30: Mud Appreciation Day\nWe always find mud on our hikes\, but this class is dedicated to the squishy stuff. Come jump in puddles\,  make mud cakes\, and most of all\, get messy!
