SUMMARY:Teanaway Love Day 2021
DESCRIPTION:Community Forests are working landscapes where communities partner with land managers to preserve the forest and uses they love. The Teanaway Community Forest demonstrates how conservation\, sustainable forestry and community partnership goals can be achieved. This beautiful 50\,241-acre landscape lies at the headwaters of the Yakima Basin watershed. The state purchased the land in 2013 with funding provided by the Legislature and established Washington’s first state-owned community forest. It is managed by the Dept. of Natural Resources\, the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife\, and an Advisory Committee of local community members. The forest contains nearly 400 miles of free-flowing streams and prime habitat for fish and wildlife. It has a history of grazing and timber harvests and offers unique recreation opportunities. Join DNR and their partners to restore the landscape and maintain recreation amenities for everyone to enjoy. \nWhat \nExpress your love for the Teanaway Community Forest through a day of service hosted by the WA Department of Natural Resources! Join your fellow community members\, The Nature Conservancy\, the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust\, and others as we prep the forest for the busy summer season! \nCOVID Updates \nDue to group-size restrictions and COVID safety guidelines\, we will be splitting our volunteers into groups no larger than 10 people. When you register for your selected activity\, please make sure that you and any friends or family who wish to work with you self-select the same group! Once 10 people have registered for each\, the registration buttons will deactivate. \nChoose your activity from the list below\, and meet us at Teanaway Camp\, 1160 West Fork Teanaway Rd.\, on May 22nd! \n\nCattle Fence Set-Up\nWork with DNR staff to set up the fencing that prevents cattle from grazing in sensitive riparian areas.  We aim to stand up a full mile of fence! Tools and work gloves will be provided. \nRegister \nRiver Access Path\nHelp DNR staff finish up new footpaths connecting Teanaway Camp to the river! Tools and work gloves will be provided. \nRegister \n\nBarbed Wire Removal\nOld fences left behind by past landowners can pose risks to wildlife\, cattle\, horseback riders\, hikers\, bikers\, and snowmobilers. Help us remove it from the West Fork Teanaway for good. Tools and work gloves will be provided. \nRegister \n
