SUMMARY:Tracking 101 - Teanaway Community Forest
DESCRIPTION:Wildlife tracking is an exciting way to spend time outside investigating the evidence animals leave behind. From bird nests in your yard to cat footprints in fresh snow\, it's how we get connected to the critters that live close to us. Wildlife tracking can be scientific or intuitive\, sparking both curiosity and connection. On Saturday\, June 20th\, you and your family are invited to join us for Tracking 101 with Kevin O’Malley in the Teanaway Community Forest!  \n  \nThe Lead Naturalist and Executive Director of South Sound Nature School\, Kevin O’Malley coordinates the Ellensburg Tracking Club\, teaches birding field classes across the state of Washington\, and served as the Education Chair of the Juneau Audubon Society for three years. As a child\, Kevin spent countless hours exploring the lands and waters of Lake Erie. Kevin received a degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Toledo\, and he currently holds a CyberTracker Level 3 Wildlife Track & Sign.   \n  \nPark at the Teanaway Valley Unit and check in by 1:00PM for a round of introductions and a brief intro to the Teanaway Community Forest. Kevin will then lead the group on a short walk into the forest to learn the basics of Wildlife Tracking. Bring comfortable shoes for walking\, water\, and layers for the weather.   \n  \nRegistration is free\, but limited to 20 people\, and those of all ages are encouraged to join us. You will need a Discover Pass for parking. There are no bathrooms on site\, but the West Teanaway Trailhead\, four miles up the road\, has vault toilets. Following the event\, you are welcome to attend Teanaway Trail Fest\, a trails celebration at Dru Bru in Cle Elum!

SUMMARY:Middle Fork Snoqualmie Valley History Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an unforgettable morning amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Valley\, nestled in the heart of the Mountains to Sound Greenway National Heritage Area. Middle Fork history expert Monty Vanderbilt and Mike Stenger from the Greenway Trust will lead you through this history hike. Together\, we'll meet at the Middle Fork Trailhead and then walk over and hike up the Garfield Ledges Trail\, with expansive views of the river valley below\, and the majestic Stegosaurus Butte and Preacher Mountain in the distance. \n \nDuring the hike\, participants will learn (and see!) how this valley has transformed over the past century. We’ll journey through time\, exploring the impacts of industries like logging\, mining\, and railroads; revisit the 1990s to learn about how the Middle Fork Valley was cared for after decades of negative use and neglect; and make our way to recent years and the major investment in the recreational infrastructure you see today. This hike will involve numerous stops where these tales come to life\, supported by history experts and historic photos and maps to help shape the day.
