SUMMARY:Jackson Street Jazz Trail - History Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a free guided walking tour of the Jackson Street Jazz Trail starting at Klondike National Historical Park in Seattle's Pioneer Square. The tour will be led by Paul de Barros\, local jazz historian and author of the book Jackson Street After Hours. \n \nOn this tour\, you'll learn all about the vibrant jazz scene that took place in Seattle's Chinatown-International District (CID) and Central District (CD). These underground night clubs brought communities together during a time of Prohibition\, Redlining\, and racial segregation. Paul will take us through the historic jazz district to visit the site of the city's first Black social club\, underground murals and speakeasies\, as well as venues where jazz legends like Ray Charles and Duke Ellington performed. \n \nWe'll also talk about how Seattle's rich jazz history has contributed to a thriving arts community in the city today. Stick around after the event to take part in the Pioneer Square Art Walk. \n \nWe hope to see you out there as we explore this lesser known part of Seattle's story\, one that we would like to highlight as a part of the Mountains to Sound Greenway National Heritage Area! \n \nSpots are limited to 20 people. If the event is full\, you can email Chris Liu at chris.liu@mtsgreenway.org to be added to the waitlist.
