What to Bring/Wear:
Participants should be ready to be outdoors and on their feet all day, work hard, get dirty, and have fun! Pay special attention to the packing list below—even if it is nice out where you live, the weather can be very different at the project site.
For safety, volunteers are required to wear:
• Long pants (we’ll be working with tools, so no shorts!)
• Sturdy, close-toed shoes
• Sleeved shirt
• Gloves (provided)
In addition, we recommend that participants bring:
• Warm layers, especially during the fall, winter, and spring
• Rain gear
• Big sack lunch
• At least one full water bottle (2+ liters are recommended for summer events)
• Small daypack for lunch, extra layers, etc.
• Bug Spray, Sunscreen, Sunglasses
We'll provide tools, project materials, gloves, hard hats, and some extra rain gear.
Project Information:
Riverfront Park is a 3.8 acre natural area located along the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River in North Bend. The Mountains to Sound Greenway and the City of North Bend are kicking off a project this year to remove English ivy and restore this local park. Non-native English Ivy has overrun the area, covering 95% of the trees and 75% of the forest floor. If something is not done soon, the ivy will cause permanent damage to the trees and continue its spread to surrounding properties. Working with the City of North Bend, Greenway volunteers will begin removing the ivy from the tree trunks and the forest floor this spring and summer. We will be returning in the fall to plant native trees and shrubs to help return the park to its natural state.
Directions:
From 1-90, take exit 31 towards N. Bend. Turn north on N Bend Blvd S/Bendigo Blvd S/WA-202. Turn right at W Park St. and make an immediate right into the gravel lot on the corner.
* If the gravel lot is full, keep going and turn right at Main Ave S. Park along the street as close to the Senior Center as possible and walk back to gravel lot.
If you get lost or have questions on the day of the event, please call Margaret Ullman, your volunteer event leader, at 206-373-1600 as the office phone is not picked up after 5pm on Friday afternoon.
Looking for other projects to get involved in? Additional trail and restoration work events are available at www.mtsgreenway.org/volunteer.
