Project Information:
Mercer Island is graced with 35 parks, over 400 acres of natural areas, and more than 50 miles of trails. Volunteers have been improving these parks for many years, planting native trees and shrubs and removing invasive plants but much more work remains to be done. Luther Burbank Park is an important rest stop for many species of migratory birds and is home to at least one family of beavers. During the volunteer event, we will be removing various invasive species such as blackberry, ivy, holly, and more to ensure the survival of the native vegetation. It'll make a big difference to this important wetland area!

PROJECT INFORMATION:
Little Si is the small peak southwest of Mt. Si. This is a relatively new trail built in 1985 that was all built by muscle, no machines. Little Si is not only a popular destination for hikers but for rock climbers as well. It offers great views of North Bend and the surrounding peaks. Due to the high numbers of hikers that use this trail annually, attention is needed to maintain this trail. The work will mostly involve building rock structures like turnpikes, steps and walls.
DIRECTIONS:
From I-90, take exit 32. Turn left on 436th SE. Turn left on SE North Bend Way. Turn right on SE Mount Si Road. Cross the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River bridge and look for event signs. The Little Si trailhead is on the left. If the main parking lot is full, please park in the overflow lot and walk along the connector trail to the trailhead.
If you get lost or have questions on the day of the event, please call Jema Hayes, your volunteer event leader, at 206-849-1796, as the office phone is not picked up after 5pm on Friday afternoon.
