New trail opens in Factoria
Cyclists and pedestrians traversing the Factoria area now have a safer means of moving about with the completion of the Factoria trail.
Only a third of a mile long, the trail opened last week and connects the north end of 124th Avenue Southeast with the I-90 trail. 124th Avenue Southeast has bike lanes, but the new trail will allow walkers and bike riders to stay off the increasingly busy street when heading across Factoria.
The project was completed at a total of $1.4 million with $605,000 coming from a state Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety grant and $354,000 from a federal Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality grant.
Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust is currently studying the feasibility of another three-mile section of trail to close another gap between Factoria Boulevard and Issaquah, which is the only such stretch of the 100 mile long trail from Seattle to Thorpe in central Washington.
