At an open house at Saint Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Bellevue yesterday Mountains to Sound Greenway (MSG) and city transportation staff presented the initial conceptual design of the proposed 3.6-mile trail to connect Lakemont and Factoria.

The pedestrian and cycling trail is designed to be 12-feet wide and to run on the south side of Interstate 90.

MSG Executive Director Cynthia Welti explained that the organization and city invite feedback from residents and business owners on the plan developed by Transportation Project Manager Chris Masek and staff, utilizing Scenic Byways grant funding.

“Completion of this section would complete a huge gap for those who want to cycle to Seattle or venture east,” said Welti. “Issues include how to share the trail and how to realize funding.”

Masek noted that the portion of this section that runs along Newport Way to Lakemont, “has a large buffer with lots of room and offers a great opportunity to construct the trail in a natural environment.”

Welti added, “We are enthused about the trail being this far along. With these details we can start looking for funding and a seed sponsor.”
