Wild Horse Wind & Solar Facility

Come visit Puget Sound Energy's unique renewable energy complex that harnesses both the power of the wind and sun from 9am-5:30pm. Atop Whiskey Dick Mountain at an elevation of 3,500 feet, the Wild Horse Renewable Energy Center allows visitors to explore the latest technologies in wind and solar power, as well as Central Washington's natural and cultural history. Snoqualmie Pass

Mountains to Sound Relay

Sunday June 21st

2008 Relay Start

Join over 200 teams, 50 pairs teams and 75 Iron Solos in the 4th Annual Mountains to Sound Relay. Beginning at Snoqualmie Pass at 8am, the event consists of a 23 mile mountain bike ride, a 50 mile road bike ride, a 12 mile canoe/kayak, a ½ Marathon and 6 mile sprint to the finish line at Golden Gardens Park on the Seattle waterfront. Cedar River Watershed Tours

Saturday June 20th
Sunday June 21st

Sign-up and join a naturalist for a 1-hour bus tour into the protected boundaries of the Cedar River Municipal Watershed, the Greater Seattle area's primary drinking-water supply. Tours are from 10:30-11:30am or 1-2pm and on a first-come, first-serve basis. Photo ID required for adults. Participants ages 10 and older. Please meet at the Cedar River Watershed Education Center 15 minutes before each tour to sign up. You can also visit the Center from 9am-5pm to listen to water drops play the drums, explore the interactive exhibits and learn about Seattle’s water supply. Iron Horse State Park Bike Ride

Saturday June 20th

 

 

Join ride leader Norm Tjaden on a 40 mile, gentle grade ride along the scenic John Wayne Pioneer Trail starting from the Rattlesnake Lake Trailhead.  The ride will have a pace set at 12/14 mph on off-road, railroad grade and include occasional regroups. Bring lunch and water for the entire day. Trail surface is mostly fine packed gravel; mountain bike or hybrid tires are recommended. Meet in the Rattlesnake Lake parking area at 10:15am for a 10:30am start. Riders will be responsible for their own minor mechanical repairs. Reservations are not required. Geoteaming at Rattlesnake Lake

Saturday June 20th

 Geoteaming group

Teams will be loaned a GPS unit, pocket PC and digital camera to help them find hidden caches along the trails at scenic Rattlesnake Lake. Participant prize drawings include free vouchers to climb the Pinnacle Wall at the REI flagship store in Seattle. Register your team or yourself for this fun geocaching competition. Father's Day Walk

Sunday June 21st

 

Celebrate Father's Day with your family by taking this 10K walk along the gravel Snoqualmie Valley Trail built on the abandoned Chicago, Milwaukee, St Paul and Pacific Railroad.  Enjoy 3 hours of stunning views of Mount Si, Rattlesnake Mountain and the Snoqualmie River. Train Rides at the Northwest Railway Museum

Experience early railroading from North Bend or Snoqualmie on a vintage train ride to the top of Snoqualmie Falls. Visit the museum at the Snoqualmie Depot from 10:00am-5:00pm both days to learn more about the history of railroading in the Pacific Northwest. Kite Making & More for Kids!

Sunday June 21st

Join us at the beautiful, historic Meadowbrook Farm Interpretive Center from 10:00am to 5:00pm for an afternoon of activities including building, decorating and flying kites, taking a guided nature walk, experimenting with science kits, watching history videos, tracking elk, and more. Fall City to Rattlesnake Lake Bike Ride

Saturday June 20th

 

Join ride leader Don Martin on a 30 mile, beautiful and hilly ride from Fall City to Rattlesnake Lake to visit the Cedar River Watershed Education Center, have a food stop, and then return. Ride pace will be set at 12-14 mph, include occasional regroups and a map for each rider. Ride includes 6 miles of hard pack dirt trail; road bikes are OK. Riders responsible for minor mechanical repairs. Meet at 9:50am at the Fall City Share/Ride dirt lot for a 10:00am start and wear an "Approved Bicycle Helmet." Issaquah Salmon Hatchery Fin Days

Learn about our watershed and the life of the salmon that swim its waters through hands-on activities and demonstrations in the Watershed Science Center for children and adults. Coal Creek Trail Hike

Join Issaquah Alps Trails Club hike leader Steve Williams on this enjoyable 6 mile hike with 900 feet gain in elevation in the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park.  Wear hiking shoes/boots; bring water, food, day pack and appropriate clothing for the weather. Issaquah & Superior Mine Hike

Meet at 10:00am at the Issaquah Train Depot for a brief presentation on the history of the Issaquah & Superior mining operations followed by a hike led by volunteer Steve Grate. The hike will last about 2 1/2 hours and cover approximately 2 miles over easy terrain. Reservations required, call 425-392-3500. Hike held rain or shine. Cost is $2.00/participant. All ages welcome. Issaquah History Museum Director, Erica Maniez, will lead hikers on a walk through the history of Issaquah, from the 1880s to present day. The hike will cover roughly 2 miles over easy terrain and last about 2 hours. Meet at the Issaquah Train Depot at 1:00pm. Reservations required, please call 425-392-3500. Fenders on Front Street Car Show & Cruise

Sunday June 21st

 2008 Fenders on Front Street

Downtown Issaquah's Front Street will be hopping from 8:00am to 3:00pm with over 900 vintage and classic cars, street vendors, a swap meet and performances by the Astro Cats, The Offenders, Black Velvet 4, DJs and more.  Trophies will be awarded at 2:00pm at the Triple-X Drive-in, followed by a cruise down Front Street from Staples to Sunset and back to Triple-X.  Directions.

 

Interpretive Hikes at Tiger Mountain

Sunday June 21st

Join Mountains to Sound Greenway teachers for an interpretive hike at Tiger Mountain to learn about fairy rings and fungus, ethnobotany, invasive species, native plant identification, soil and the forest. Participants of all ages and hiking experiences who want to learn more about the forest, plants and animals that surround them are welcome. Hikers will gather at the Pavilion at the High Point trailhead every hour starting at 9:00am for an hour long walk on a flat trail. Last hike starts at 2:00pm. If a group wants a longer hike, please call Sally Kentch to arrange. No hiking experience necessary. Red Town Loop Hike

Join Issaquah Alps Trails Club hike leader Doug Simpson on this easy/moderate 5 mile hike with 800 feet gain in elevation in the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park.  You'll get to see DeLeo Wall and the pristine Coal Creek Falls. Grand Ridge Mine Hike

Gather at 10:00am at the Issaquah Train Depot for a brief presentation on the history of the Grand Ridge mining operations. Following the presentation, hikers will either set off on foot or drive to a meeting place closer to the trailhead.  The hike itself, led by Issaquah History Museum volunteer Steve Grate, will last about 4 hours and cover approximately 3 to 5 miles over moderate terrain.  Reservations required, call 425-392-3500.  Cost is $2.00/participant.  Hike held rain or shine and all ages are welcome.  Please bring water and a sack lunch.  Directions.

Explore Mercer Slough, the largest freshwater wetland on Lake Washington, at the beautiful, newly opened Education Center. Saturday activities include: Environmental Education workshops from 10-11am & 1-2pm; Ranger led walks from 11-12:30pm & 2-3:20pm; and Tree House viewing from 11:30-12:30pm.  Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the outdoor plaza.  The Visitor Center will be open to visitors both days from 10:00am to 4:00pm.  All ages welcome.  Directions.

Let's Go Fishing!

2008 Mercer Island Fishing

Enjoy one of the great all-American past-times - fishing!  Students, ages 6 to 15 (with an adult), will receive instruction from Roger and Linda Urbaniak on effective fishing techniques, including how to tie up their own bait for trout and perch.  Students will be encouraged to go onto the public docks at Luther Burbank Park to fish and will be provided with a fishing kit to take home.  Event runs from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.  Bring a fishing pole if you have one.  $22 fee to participate and pre-registration is required.  To reserve your spot call 206-275-7609.  Directions.

Kayak Rides in Luther Burbank Park

Sunday June 21st

First timers can paddle in double sit-on-top kayaks (a small child can ride with two adults) on Sunday from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm.  Kayak Academy will provide necessary safety equipment, including life jackets.  All participants must be comfortable in the water and a participant waiver form must be filled out prior to participation.  Rides limited to 20 minutes.  Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Directions.

Mountains to Sound Relay Finish

Celebrate the exciting Mountains to Sound Relay finish at Golden Gardens Park on the Seattle waterfront.  Spectators can cheer on as racers cross the finish line, listen to the live broadcast by KMTT The Mountain and enjoy the festive atmosphere.  The fun will begin at 2:00pm as the first teams cross the finish line.  Limited parking is available so please use public transportation or car pool where possible.  Directions.  Or register your team to compete in this multi-sport, 100 mile relay!
