Give to preserve the Greenway

The Mountains to Sound Greenway is the 100-mile forested corridor found along I-90 from Seattle, over Snoqualmie Pass and down into Central Washington. It is a designated National Scenic Byway and encompasses hundreds of thousands of acres of publicly-owned forest and park lands, most of which are held by local, state and federal agencies in trust for the public good. That means they are not private lands, but belong to all of us.

The Greenway provides abundant recreational opportunities just minutes from where we live and work. With world class scenic vistas, unique historical sites and pristine wilderness, protecting the Greenway means protecting clean air and clean water for our communities. The Greenway's vast forests filter and control our water and clean our air. The capacity of trees to take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen makes them a key component in the effort to stem global warming. The Greenway is an oasis close to a growing metropolitan area, a place to refresh, replenish and nurture our spirits, and it epitomizes the vastness and beauty of the Pacific Northwest and all the reasons we love to live here.

The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust is the nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that helped to protect these lands and preserve them for public benefit. Now we work with land managers and agencies such as Washington Department of Natural Resources, Washington State Parks, Washington Department of Transportation, the USDA Forest Service and local towns and counties to:
  • Acquire key parcels of still unprotected land, crucial to keeping the landscape of the Greenway intact, forested and undeveloped.
  • Build and repair connected systems of hiking, biking, walking & equestrian trails.
  • Restore valuable habitat by planting trees, removing invasive plants and restoring riparian areas.

Much of our work is done with volunteers and while we receive state and federal grants for some of our programs, we rely primarily on contributions from local businesses and individuals to carry out our work. Your donation supports our efforts to protect the Mountains to Sound Greenway from the constant threats of urbanization and overuse and helps keep it beautiful and accessible, now and for future generations.
