State Support

The vision of a protected Mountains to Sound Greenway corridor has interested state legislators, with the result being that new projects to conserve land and improve recreation facilities have been funded for the second time by the Washington State Legislature. Projects from the 2006 session include the Rattlesnake Mountain Trail and Trailhead, funding toward the new park at Snoqualmie Point and trail improvements on Tiger Mountain.

The new project list from 2007 includes:

South Cle Elum Substation STATE PARKS: Renovation of historic railroad facility on John Wayne Trail in Kittitas County
Iron Horse State Park / John Wayne Trail STATE PARKS: Completes installation of bridge railings and other safety enhancements along this critical GW and cross-state trail
City to Mountains Regional
Gap Fund
STATE PARKS (pass-through to DOT) Constructs High Point to Preston Gap in the trail system that connects Seattle to the John Wayne Trail
Squak Mtn Trails STATE PARKS: Enhancements to the equestrian/pedestrian trail system in this State Park just south of Issaquah
Mountains to Sound-State Route 18/I-90 Interchange CTED: Acquisition of key parcels in this forested Interchange to protect the visual characteristics of this National Scenic Byway
Mt Si NRCA Trail/Trailhead STATE DNR: Expands the crowded Little Si Trailhead and builds a connector trail, matched by WWRP funds

STATE PARKS: Will design upgrade for most popular beach and other portions of new Park Plan that the Trust was very active in promoting.
Storm Damage STATE DNR (2007 Supplemental): Funding to deal with late 2006 storm damage to trails and trail bridges on Tiger Mtn
Conservation Corps (WCC) Health Insurance STATE DNR: Small but important. Provides low-cost health insurance for 11 young people who devote a year to improve GW trails / natural areas.

STATE PARKS: Restores heavily damaged junction of Issaquah Creek and Lk Samm. Trust developed project, will implement with Parks.

Little Si Access State Land Development: State DNR: 2nd ranked project; expands Little Si trailhead and builds connector trail (matched by funds in DNR Budget)
Eastside Trail Acquisition - South Segment Trails: King County: Helps acquire railway corridor for trail that connects Renton to I-90 Trail and continues to SR-520
Teanaway Ecosystem Critical Habitat: State Fish and Wildlife: Acquisition of 1,280 acres of key checkerboard habitat in area of high Greenway priority.

Upper Yakima Riparian Riparian Protection: State Fish and Wildlife: #1 ranked, acquires 200 acres of riparian between Suncadia protected land and WDFW lands
Taylor Mtn Forest Inholdings Riparian Protection: King County: #2 ranked, long-time GW priority to acquire in-holdings

Riparian Protection: Issaquah: #9 ranked, Acquisition of additional lands along Issaquah salmon streams, long-time GW priority
Middle Fork Natural Area Acquisition Riparian Protection: King County: #16 ranked, long-time GW priority to acquire remaining in-holdings
Beaver Lake Preserve Expansion Riparian Protection: Sammamish, acquires 17 acre forest connection between Soaring Eagle/Beaver Lake/Grand Ridge (longtime Greenway goal)

State DNR Trust Land Transfer Program also provides for:
820 acres added to the Mt Si NRCA
160 acres added to the West Tiger NRCA
